A Speaker box appears in many places. Examples include when you record a vernacular audio file, record a back translation audio file, use the Upload Audio dialog box or you use the Audacity Manager dialog box. The Select Voice dialog box also has a Speaker box.
When you type or paste the name of a new person in a Speaker box a Provide Rights dialog box appears. Use it to provide the permission to use the speakers voice. If you have selected the experimental feature called Convert VoiceAI, the requirements for a rights statement might be different.
A suggested statement is provided in the Provide Rights dialog box. But you can use a different one with similar content.
You will need a microphone so you can record the statement.
You must be 18 years or older to give consent to use your voice.
If you see the Upload Rights File button in the Provide Rights dialog box, here is one way to use it if you do not want to record the statement in APM:
If you will personalize the suggested statement, click PERSONALIZE and then use the Personalize Voice Permission dialog box.
Click (copy to clipboard) to copy the personalized statement.
Paste the statement into an editor, such as Microsoft Word.
When you are satisfied with the statement, print it and then sign the printed statement.
Scan that signed statement as a digital visual file (PDF, PNG or JPG).
Click Upload Rights File.
Use the Upload Speaker Rights Release dialog box to choose that visual file.
Click Upload.
Click Save.
If you will personalize the suggested statement, click Personalize and then use the Personalize Voice Permission dialog box.
If you want to copy the statement and save it in another file, click (copy to clipboard) to copy the statement.
Click (Record) or press the keyboard shortcut (F9 or Ctrl + 9) and speak into your microphone.
Click (Pause) or press the keyboard shortcut (F9 or Ctrl + 9) when you are finished or want to pause recording for a moment.
Click (Play) or press the keyboard shortcut (F1 or Ctrl + Space) to listen to your recording for quality and usability.
Select a portion of the audio waveform that you do not want to keep, and then click (Delete Region).
If Reduce NoiseAI is selected in the Team Settings dialog box, or the Personal Settings dialog box, click (Reduce NoiseAI) to use this experimental feature. If you do not need to reduce the noise for the entire audio file, select the portion that is too noisy before you click Reduce NoiseAI.
Click (Delete Entire Recording) if you want to start over.
When you are satisfied with the recording, click Save.
If you click Do Later, the dialog box will appear again later.
The asterisk in a Speaker * box means speaker name is required.
An exception is a step that uses the Phrase Back Translation tool. Here, the speaker is not published so there is no need for rights to use their voice.
Other control you can use are described in this topic: Provide Rights dialog box.
The sponsor for the rights is set in the Convert Voice Settings dialog box.
