The step must use a tool that allows for discussions.
For a particular passage, open the Work view from the Sections & Passages tab, if the view and tool is not already displayed.
Optionally, some tools allow you to use your mouse to select the region of the audio waveform you want to discuss. Alternately, if you added segments, click a segment.
This will enable Audio Project Manager to put the start-end times of the region or segment in the Topic line when you add the discussion.
This can persist to other steps so the start-end times of that region or segment can appear in discussions added in other steps.
In the Discussion pane, click (Add Discussion).
The Discussions dialog box appears.
The start-end times, if any, appear in the Topic line, along with a flag () at the start point.
In the Topic line, type a brief statement as desired. This can be in addition to the start-end times.
Assign the discussion to either a peer group or an individual team member (optional).
Choose an existing category or add a new category (online only) for this discussion (optional). Examples:
Choose Retelling if it is about a retelling audio recording.
Choose Question and Answer if it is about a question and answer audio recording.
Click Add Comment to save the discussion and display a line for your comment.
Type or record () your comment, and then click
to save the comment.
If you need to attach this discussion to a different portion or segment of the audio waveform, do these steps:
Use your mouse to select a portion of the audio waveform.
You can do any of these steps:
Use the segment controls to add or delete a segment boundary.
Move a boundary.
Click a different existing segment.
Click (More) and then click
Set Segment.
You cannot use both segmentation and manually selected portions for Discussions in the same step.
If you have selected portions that appear in the Topic line, and then use the Auto Segment () feature, the locate (
) button and flags (
) will no longer work.
If you selected a region of the audio waveform or clicked a segment, you see this button (Locate discussion subject in audio recording) next to the start time-end time of your selection.
Later, if you record another version of the audio file, when you return to the step where you added this discussion, the step will play the new version of that audio recording.
In this case, the (Locate discussion subject in audio recording) is replaced with a symbol that has a number, like this:
(Version). It is next to a play button (
) in the discussion. This play button will play the region you selected in the version that was available when you added the discussion. Also be aware that the region is not selected in the audio waveform now. This is because you see the version that is newer than the one you hear. But, this allows you to listen to the original segment that the discussion is about and then compare it with the later version.
For example, in the Step column: . Note that for a flat project, each section has one passage.
