Audio Project Manager (APM) (copyright) is a computer program that runs in a browser. The Audio Project Manager Desktop app runs in a separate window. You can use it to make various products that include written (digital) transcriptions of audio files.
Both have a Work view that Transcribers and Editors (roles) use, and an Audio Project view that Admins use. From this, these Helps have general procedures that anyone can do and set-up procedures that only Admins do. In addition, it is possible to share and publish from APM.
This application opens and runs in Internet browsers. It is required when you set up audio projects and teams. It also lets you or team members transcribe audio recordings.
Typically, you would have an Internet connection so your changes appear for other users and you see their changes in the audio project. However, you can continue to work if you lose your Internet connection. The next time you are connected, your changes are sent to the server and other people's changes are received in your instance of Audio Project Manager.
The Desktop app (Desktop) is in installed and runs in a separate window.
It allows you to work in different ways.
Always online:
You log in and use Desktop online.
In this case, Desktop is like Audio Project Manager in a browser. You can have personal () and team (
) audio projects.
Occasionally online:
In the Desktop, you can go offline work for a while and then go online again.
For one of many possible examples, you may start online in a city to get your audio project set up, but then work in an area where there is no access to the Internet. In this case, when a team member logs in to the Internet, any changes are uploaded to the online server and any changes other team members uploaded would become available.
Occasional use could be due to cost, reliability, limited bandwidth or other concerns.
Always offline:
You work alone as an offline user in Desktop.
In this case, you would have personal audio projects that you could sync with Paratext locally (on your computer).
See Start from the beginning overview to get started.
My Account overview describes what you can do in the User profile window.
